The Nikon D610 uses Secure Digital (SD) memory cards to store photos and video. The D610 has two card slots. You can put SD, SDHC, SDXC type cards. The D610 supports high speed UHS-1 (also written as UHS-I) transfer protocol for maximum throughput. For best performance, choose a UHS-I card.
Standard SD cards have a Class rating. Higher Class numbers support faster read and write speeds. You should use at least a minimum of Class 6 (6 MB/second) for recording video with the D610; Class 10 (10 MB/second or faster) is highly recommended for faster writing of images. There is no SD Class beyond Class 10, although cards can actually be much faster. Instead you should look for the UHS-I designation, as well as specified write speed. UHS-I cards can perform up to 99 MB/second and will allow you to download files from your camera or SD card much faster (with compatible card reader). Note: for transferring images the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port on the camera is limited to 35MB/second speed, if you want to download pictures faster use an external USB 3.0 Card Reader
UHS-I cards have a new UHS Speed Class, designated by a number inside the letter U. These are guaranteed continuous write speeds intended for video recording. UHS Speed Class 1 supports 10MB/s write speed. More recently a new UHS Speed Class 3 was introduced that supports 30MB/s. Although the D610 does not require this high speed for video, the faster cards will write images faster for better continuous shooting performance.
Nikon has tested many SD cards with the D610 and approved several for the D610. Using other SD cards than specified may work, but these have not been tested. For maximum compatibility, choose one of the following cards.

- SanDisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s (95 MB/s read speed, ~45 MB/s write speed in D600)
- SanDisk Extreme 45 MB/s (45 MB/s read, 33 MB/s write speed in D600)
- Lexar Professional 600x (90 MB/s read speed, 32MB/s write speed in D600)

The Nikon D610 is compatible with Eye-Fi Wiresless SD cards. There information display will show an icon when an Eye-Fi card has been put into an SD card slot. The icon shows the status of the Eye-Fi card. To enable the card, press the Menu button and choose Setup. You can then select the upload option. Before you use the Eye-Fi card, visit the Eye-Fi website to download the latest card firmware version.

The Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-II card will work in the camera, however it will be limited to UHS-I speed and operate no faster than a UHS-I speed. For much less cost, you buy the Extreme Pro UHS-I card for the D610. The only benefit to the UHS-II would be faster download speed because the camera does not support UHS-II.

Yes the SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s card works very well in the D610.
The speed using a USB 2.0 cable directly to the camera transfer images will be limited to around 30MB/s. If you use a USB 3.0 card reader can transfer up to 95MB/s.
Does the D610 support capacities higher than 64gb?
Yes, although these higher capacity cards were not tested by Nikon, the D610 should support any capacity SD card. It will work with 128GB and 256GB cards, and it should also work with the new 512GB that was recently announced by SanDisk.
I now have two SanDisk Extreme 45mb/s 128GB cards in the camera. With either one or two cards in, it says I have space for 2300 images, shooting raw only. Shouldn’t I be seeing 4600 with the second card installed?
In Overflow mode, the indicator shows shots remaining on the card in Slot 1. When Slot 1 card is full it switches to showing the shots available in slot 2.
In Backup mode it shows the shots remaining according to the card with least amount of space, when one card is full it will not take any more shots.
With the D610 having 2 SD card slots, if you have a normal SD card in one slot and wifi in the other, are you able to transfer files off the normal card to devices via the wifi card?

Hi, i have two cards ADATA 32gigs R95 and W45, in my nikon d7100 since i purchased the cards no problems of what i can remember, i just purchased the nikon d610 and within the first 50 shots i had 5-6 corrupted photos, (I took the cards out the d7100 and put then in the 610)… so I dont think the Adata cards are compatible…not sure…but since i have taken another 50 to 100 shots with 2 cards sandisk 30mbs 32 gigs and the photos seem ok. Was stressed as i thought it could be the new camera..maybe even the card reader… still testing to gain my confidence back..only had the camera 3 days now and i did format the cards in the camera after i took the first few shots, as i forgot..am i right in saying the adata cards are no good in this camera?

The SanDisk 280MB/s is a UHS-II card. The D600 supports only UHS-I. The UHS-II card can also do UHS-I mode, but it is not as fast in UHS-I mode as the Extreme Pro 95MB/s UHS-I card.
Hello … In the past I have used the SanDisk 16GB Class 10 ExtremePRO SDHC Memory Card, U1 …. I see most newer SanDisk cards now have a U3 rating …. I wrote to Nikon about using the U3 card in the D610 and they told me: “We are unable to guarantee compatibility of using a U3 memory card since we have not tested U3 cards as compatible.” …. Does anyone have any experience with using the U3 rated cards with the D610? Will they work without any problems? …. I also want to mention I only take photos, (no video) and I see in the above article the U1 and U3 ratings refer to continuous write speeds intended for video recording … but I still want to make sure these U3 cards will work fine for photos without any problems …. U3 rated cards work fine in the D610. It just means the card is capable of higher write speed. There is no compatibility issue.

The D610 has no built-in WiFi. You can use either a wireless card such as the Eye-Fi or use the WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter.

The Lexar 2000x UHS-II cards will work in the D600, however the camera can’t take advantage of the extra speed. A fast UHS-I like the SanDisk Extreme Pro would be just as fast in the camera. And you are correct, you can take advantage of the UHS-II speed in a card reader when transferring images.

Hi! I used 64GB Samsung SDXC-card in D610. After ~8GB the camera started corrupting 10-20 last pics taken, when taking new pics. What’s wrong?
File recovery program said – at the point of 12% recovery (~8GB) that media in the drive might have changed. Maybe the card is faulty..?
Yes, it seems to be a memory card issue. Try using a different card in the camera and see if the issue persists.

The Toshiba Exceria 90MB/s 32GB microSD card will work in the D610. The card is rated 90MB/s read but I could not find a write speed. It appears to be rated Class 10 and UHS Speed Class 1 (U1) which means it can do at least 10MB/s write speeed. But it may not be the fastest card for your camera. If you do a lot of continuous shooting where you fill the buffer, you might want to look for a U3 rated card. The Toshiba Exceria Pro microSD card is U3 rated.

Hello. These are basically the same. The one labeled V30 is newer but in testing the read and write speeds are practically the same between the two.

The Samsung EVO Plus is faster at write speed, provided it is the newer U3 rated version. You can use any of them in the camera with the adapter.
Is it correct NOT to use SDXC 64 MB cardfor recording full HD video with the D610? I recorded a concert and only 2 of 15 files were o.k., the rest .mov files are broken and not to be recovered.
A 64GB SDXC should work. Corrupted files may be due to a faulty SD card. If the card is not able to sustain write speed the camera will stop recording video, not corrupt it.
